TO CALDEIRÃO DO INFERNO

If you have head for heights, you should continue along this route to Caldeirão do Inferno. Soon after you start this wonderful and exciting path to the heart of Madeira island, you will notice that sheer drops - even tens or hundreds of meters - right after the path down to the valley bottom are regular on this route. Railings are often tenuous at least in year 2007 when we last explored this route. Along this route we may enjoy beautiful intact nature of laurasilva, amazing tunnels and virginal waterfalls. THE PATH VIEW TO RIBEIRA GRANDE VALLEY

On the Caldeirao Verde path we continue ahead as the guidepost on the crossroad says. Rocky cliff follows the path on the left at first and the chasm on the right deepen as we walk along the left side of this little side valley of the Ribeira Grande valley. On the other side we can see the Queimadas path with its newly restored railings. The railings on this side are instead broken in many places.
Soon we get to a point where water falls down to the path and after that railing are broken down again. There is direct chasm here again right after the path. If we look down there is a massive rocky cliff following the valley bottom. From time to time the path moderates and instead of rocky bed of the path, there is a ground bed to walk on our path.
ON THE PATH THE PATH KAIDE ON KAATUNUT

There is a big rock on the place where our route turn left to follow the Ribeira Grande valleyside. Here, we can find smaller path leading behind the rock. Follow that path to see the marvelous valley views hidden behind the rock. You may loose this beautiful secret spot if you hurry on and it's a great view over the valley of Ribeira Granden
From now on little wider path is easy to walk. Little further on it narrows again a bit and little by little the head of the Ribeira Grande valley comes in to sight.

THE PATH
THE PATH GOES ALONG STEEP SLOPE THE PATH

The hillside continues steep and if you dear you may carefully peep over the edge. The views down to the bottom are dizzying. The massive peak of Canario (1591 meters) can be seen ahead and somewhere below it there is Caldeirão do Inferno. The green, rugged and steep hillsides soften with leafy trees are really impressive on this area. This is the original nature of Madeira which have formed to this state over thousands of years. Ladies and gentleman, we're on our way to the heart of the Madeira island.

ALONG THE SLOPE WE GO
THE MOUNTAIN VIEW FORMATION OF ROCK

In a moment we arrive to the forrest seen in a picture. On the other side of the valley is an interesting formation of rock

UNPASSABLE PIECE OF LEVADA SMALL TREE IS GROWING ON FROM THE ROCKS THE FLOWER

After the forrest we climb down to bypass the unnavigable section of the levada and climb back up to join the levada again. After that you should be careful not to miss the stairs leading up to Levada do Inferno. Pay attention to the left. You reach the stairs in few minutes. To Caldeirão do inferno levada.
