ENLARGE TRADITIONAL BUILDING TRADITIONAL BUILDING You will find Queimadas, by following the narrow road from Santana throught eucalyptusforrests. When driving this road you should stop and enjoy the fresh air with full of beautiful scent of eucatyptus. Especially after the rain it's very strong.
Our route to the great waterfall of Caldeirão Verde starts at Queimadas Forestry park on altitude of 900 meters above sea level. That's why you shouldn't forget warm clothing and raincoat as the average yearly rainfall is bigger on the north side of the island. On Levada do Caldeirao verde there is also tunnels, so take the flashlight with you. Some people think that Route to Caldeirao Verde is dangerous. The path goes along steep and rocky walls of Ribeira Grande valley. There can be over hundred meters shear drops from the path, but the protective railings along the whole route are in very good condition, because of the popularity of this wonderful route. At least when I walked this route in year 2006 they were brand new. That's why you shouldn't worry and just enjoy the great views and wonderful plantlife on this natural reserve.

QUEIMADAS ROUTES

The waterfall of Caldeirão Verde is one of the most impressive attractions in Madeira. We can get to this quite isolated place by finding the Levada do Caldeirão Verde behind the traditional house of Queimadas. Along this route it is also possible to continue to the highest peak of Madeira which is Pico Ruivo (alt. 1862 meters 6109 feet), as well as Vale da Lapa valley.

Pico das Pedras is the place where many plants and trees of Madeira nature are produced for planting. The path to Pico das Pedras starts from parking place.
After visiting Caldeirao Verde you can continue along unprotected path to Caldeirao do Inferno. That is if you are sure footed and not afraid of heights, as there can be direct vertical drops down to the valley bottom tens or even hundred meters. The path may also be in bad condition in some places, so take care of your steps.

If you decide to continue to Inferno path, it is possible for you to get to Fajã da nogueira waterplant via 2,6 kilometer tunnel. Just remember to get for example taxi to collect you when you finnish in Nogueira. Do it ahead as it may be difficult to order taxi from the powerplant.
All in all, there is loads of ways to have great adventure on this area. You just have to pick the way that suits your abilities best.
